The Silverton Avalanche School 3-day forecasting course targets pro 1 and pro 2 graduates as well as other industry professionals looking to develop and enhance their forecasting skills.

Using the guidance of the Conceptual Model of Avalanche Hazard and best practices from across North America, students and instructors take a more detailed look at avalanche forecasting in the challenging terrain and complex snowpack of the San Juan Mountains of Colorado. This course allows for instruction in forecasting theory and tool use and gives the student hands on time making observations, developing forecasts and field truthing their product while moving through terrain.

This is a low ratio course that is taught through a mix of field and class time, hands on practice, table top exercises, and classroom lectures.

This is an excellent opportunity to practice and hone your avalanche hazard and risk assessment skills in one of the more complicated snow climates in North America.

This program serves as a great bridge between pro 1 and pro 2 training or as a stand alone continuing education program.
