Eric McCue

(PRO)

Hailing from the snowy peaks of Southeastern Wisconsin, Eric is still looking for a job title. A constant opportunity seeker and lifelong learner, he takes great pride in seeking out new experiences and knowledge from all corners of the industry. After "retiring" from a 17-year culinary career, Eric joined Beaver Creek Ski Patrol in 2016, becoming a member of their snow safety operations and a CRAD tech. During this time he also graduated from the Colorado Mountain College Avalanche Science Program and completed his Pro 2 certificate. He is a resource member of VMRG and served as the Assistant Avalanche Operations Director for Chris Johnson. Eric also worked as an avalanche tech for Bluebird Backcountry during their inaugural season, snow safety lead at Ski Cooper, and tail guide for Chicago Ridge Cat Skiing.

In the Spring of 2022, Eric was brought back to CMC to become a lead faculty member of the ASP, which eventually led to him becoming the Program Manager that following Fall. He joined SAS in the winter of 22/23 as a Pro Instructor. Eric also lends his time to assisting with research across the greater industry. He helped the CAIC with their dendrochronology study of the 2019 avalanche cycle, assisted Ron Simenhois with his avalanche path recognition programming, worked as an on-snow guide and technical advisor for the USGS, and even conducted his own study of the effects of geothermal activity on the snowpack. During the summer months, Eric works in forestry as a sawyer and arborist and has cut in and expanded several public and private ski areas around the West. Eric lives in Leadville with his wife and two chiweenies, and can usually be found enjoying the worst snow in Colorado. One day, Eric hopes to take a day off.
