Brandon Slate
(REC)
Brandon taught himself to snowboard on a sledding hill in West Michigan and is amazed by the places snowboarding has taken him and the remarkable people he’s met along the way. He began as a park rat before seeking solitude in the backcountry.
Brandon launched his snow career as a ski patroller at Copper Mountain, where he mastered snow mitigation techniques and developed his skills with extraordinary mentorship. Promoted to route leader, he relocated to Monarch Mountain, where he became its first snowboard patroller. There, he rose to forecaster for the Monarch Patrol Team.
Brandon has guided rafts for decades, teaching whitewater kayaking, river surfing, and mountain biking. He also serves as an Instructor Trainer for Advanced Whitewater Paddleboarding. In 2016, he began professional splitboard guiding and avalanche education at Rocky Mountain Outdoor Center, where he now leads Winter Operations. Brandon represents SAS in the Arkansas Valley. His deep local knowledge and unrivaled home advantage strengthen our school’s Sawatch-based REC and Rescue programs.
