Avalanche Rescue Medical Training

The SAS AvMed course is designed to pick up where your prior avalanche training ends. Through a combination of classroom instruction and field time, we focus on evidence-based resuscitation and patient care for avalanche victims.

This course drills down into the nuances of treating patients in cold environments. We will emphasize the care of individuals who have been extricated and are not breathing and have no pulse. We will also address the management of hypothermia, wound care, and fracture treatment. Most of the skills you learn will be applicable to any backcountry emergency scenario.

The only prerequisites are CPR certification and an avalanche rescue course. Material can be tailored for participants with no medical background as well as for advanced practitioners.
