Silverton Avalanche School’s 60th Anniversary Birthday Bash
4SAW is an annual gathering for avalanche practitioners, mountain professionals and backcountry recreationists held in the Southern Rocky Mountains & Southwest United States. 4SAW includes a full line-up of speakers, workshops, clinics, exhibitors & activities focused on snow, avalanches, backcountry rescue & winter recreation.
4SAW 2022 coincides with the 60th Anniversary of Silverton Avalanche School. As the oldest, continuously operating avalanche education program in the United States, we are stoked to have you help us celebrate six decades of excellence here in Silverton this fall!
Since 1962, the Silverton Avalanche School has educated backcountry travelers about the hazards of the mountains. As the oldest, continuously operating avalanche education program in the United States, the Silverton Avalanche School is dedicated to training, educating and empowering recreationalists & professionals with the tools, technologies, tactics and techniques to make competent decisions in consequential mountain terrain.
4SAW is a grant supported, regional event and is co-sponsored by the American Avalanche Association (A3). Our sponsors’ and supporters’ contributions cover event overhead and allow us to keep attendance costs as low as possible for attendees.
4SAW is the first, A3 sanctioned SAW scheduled for fall 2022 and is expected to draw up to 300 participants from across the Four Corners and beyond. Our staff have partnered closely with city and county officials to design the safest, most accessible and affordable experience possible. This October, the venue moves back to its traditional home at the Silverton School gymnasium. We look forward to welcoming participants to our community and orchestrating a safe and seamless experience for both visitors and locals alike.
